After more than 30 years of success in California and Nevada and the lack of a similar entity offering medical and dental malpractice liability in nearby states, CHI’s owners believed expansion into the Pacific Northwest was a natural progression. Therefore, in 2014, CHI registered to do business in Oregon (OHI), Washington (WHI) and Alaska (AHI), followed by Idaho (IHI) in 2017.
In each of those states, CHI operates under the “doing business as” (DBA) names of Oregon Healthcare Insurance Company, A Risk Retention Group (OHI), Washington Healthcare Insurance Company, A Risk Retention Group (WHI), Alaska Healthcare Insurance Company, A Risk Retention Group (AHI) and Idaho Healthcare Insurance, A Risk Retention Group (IHI). Although CHI’s target market is typically independent hospitals, in 2018, CHI launched The Dentist Program and the company began offering dental professional liability (or dentist malpractice insurance) to dentists in the state of Washington (WHI), followed by Oregon (OHI) in 2021.
